Song: Fool's Gold

FAWM 2018

Album: FAWM 2018
Track: #28

This was a song idea I've had kicking around for all of FAWM, and I couldn't seem to get it into a song. Until now. It's a little more depressing than I had expected it'd turn out, but that's kind of my songwriting MO. I think it's pretty obvious the general idea what the song is about, but like me for my own fools gold faults, I don't think the song ever figures out the solution. I can't believe February has flown by, and I'm thrilled my FAWM song-a-day adventure worked out again! It's a great way to pin me into songwriting and end the month (and basically the year, for me, at least for songwriting) with a bunch of new material, and one or two future greatest hits.

A man, like many, was seeking fortune
And out of the blue, he caught that glimmer
The more he dug, the bigger grew the portion
He was gonna be a millionaire by winter

But not to overblow it, he kept calm
Next day he went to town to feel it out
The locals knew that area wasn't right for gold
And the man had nothing to be excited about

Everybody knew that it was fools gold
So, like a fool, he knew it too
He died alone out there in the cold
With his dreams

A man, like many, was seeking love
And out of the blue, he caught that glimmer
It was the one he'd always dreamed of
She was made for him, he was never clearer

But not to overblow it, he kept calm
He asked all his friends what they thought about it
They told him she would never want him at all
He was going to have to go without

Everybody knew that it was fools gold
So, like a fool, he knew it too
He died alone out there in the cold
With his dreams

You know the moral here
These aren't surprising words
You have to ignore the fear
And not be deterred

People won't beg for you
To show them who you are
And for that
I wanna give you this gold star

Everybody knew that it was fools gold
So, like a fool, he knew it too
He died alone out there in the cold
With his dreams

Everybody knew that it was fools gold
So, like a fool, he knew it too
He died alone out there in the cold
With his dreams
