Song: The Old Man's Porch

FAWM 2018

Album: FAWM 2018
Track: #16

I struggled a bit today -- took me a while even to find a chord progression that merited words. I'm on the fence with this one, mostly because I'm usually pretty uncomfortable telling stories like this that aren't "true" (as in, non-autobiographical), just because it feels so unauthentic. It's OK I guess, and I do love the chorus and overall drive. It's a rare song for me in that there's hardly any negative irony or sadness and such. I guess that's something. :)

All day long we'd plow that field
All day long we'd plow that field
Quick stop mid-day for a nibble or two

Then on and on we'd plow that field
On and on keep plowing that field
And right before dinner here's what we'd do

Lay on the old man's porch and
Wait for the stars to fill the sky
Then he'd play an old guitar til the morning
Teach us all about life

All day long we'd plant the wheat
All day long we'd plant the wheat
Can't wait to get home and start baking bread

But we gotta go we gonna plant the wheat
Oh we gotta keep going we're planting wheat
Then we gotta do something b'fore we go to bed

Lay on the old man's porch and
Wait for the stars to fill the sky
Then he'd play an old guitar til the morning
Teach us all about life

Lay on the old man's porch and
Wait for the stars to fill the sky
Then he'd play an old guitar til the morning
Teach us all about life

Lay on the old man's porch and
Wait for the stars to fill the sky
Then he'd play an old guitar til the morning
Teach us all about life
