Another kind of random one that, FWIW, I absolutely love but that just came out of nowhere. I think a lot of songwriters feel like they just "discover" songs or "write songs down," and this one definitely feels that way.
Each previous FAWM, I had made it a point to make sure I accomplished all four challenges, but this year, I held out to the end to see if I could achieve all four in a single song. Yeah, that's what this is. :) I'm super proud of that. I will say I might need to revisit it to polish some of the lyrics, but we'll see how they grow on me.
That being said, this is also possibly my favorite song I've written this FAWM. It just has so much happening in it, and I feel like all those things deliver their own little microperspective. Then, those perspectives combine for their own kind of symphony. I dunno -- I'll quit jabbering now (especially because that last sentence just made me think of Captain Planet).
Anyway, I'm anxious to see if the song reverberates similarly to y'all. Can't wait to hear your thoughts!
Can you see that shroud of oceans From up on high All the other water's frozen That we can find Soon enough we'll be a floatin' Away our time Can you see that cloud of smoke? From up on high It's the remnant of explosions Somewhere nearby Hey we're gonna start to choke Fly man fly Can you see that tattered coat? From up on high Trying to keep that tattered bloke From a sufferin' life Although he's breathing shattered hope Tonight
